Health of Nawaz Sharif should not be made a political issue: Firdous Awan

ISLAMABAD: Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting, stated that the health of Nawaz Sharif was a humanitarian matter and it should not be made a political and legal issue.

Addressing a Presser along with Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan here, she claimed that the PM had created the facility of medical board for Nawaz Sharif with sincerity.  According to Ashiq Awan PM had directed the spokesmen of the government not to give any political statement on Nawaz Sharif’s health and the Government had facilitated the former PM Sharif at every level.

Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan said some legal points involved in this issue were crucial. He said NAB law clearly stated that sentence of a convict could not be suspended or bailed.  He said when the issue came into the court the federal government said there should be surety or indemnity for going abroad.

Noting that Nawaz Sharif had a precedent of not abiding by the undertakings he made in the past Attorney General claimed that the court had not rejected the government’s position on indemnity bond.

Dr Firdous Awan earlier held that the government respected the court decisions. She said the government never did politics regarding health of former PM Nawaz Sharif. She held that the court had given relief to an ailing person, and not the PML-N. She said the government would give its response after the court issued its detailed verdict on the matter.

Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan, stating that he would only be in a position to advise the government after seeing the written verdict. He said that Nawaz Sharif could proceed abroad by showing the attested copy of court order to immigration authorities. Noting that extension in permission could be granted on various conditions he said court would be contacted for that purpose.
