ISLAMABAD: Former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, terming the 2024-25 budget as the worst in Pakistan’s history, criticized tax exemptions to Civil and Military bureaucrats.
“If you sell land or house, a tax of 2.5 to 4.5 percent has been imposed on it. But there is a clause kept in it which I don’t think any government can justify it. Civil bureaucrats and military personnel whether serving or retired have been granted an exemption,” Khaqan pointed out.
He was talking to journalists at a Presser held jointly with former finance minister Miftah Ismail. It is pertinent to mention here that the duo, not happy with the political parties, had decided to launch their own political party, Awaam Pakistan.
Cruel Jest: Dawn in its editorial addressing the 2024-25 budget aptly held that the nation has realized that the Fin Min’s assurances (that there were no holy cows and that everybody would have to contribute to the national kitty) had been a cruel jest.
