ORAKZAI (KP): Militants have gunned two policemen down here on Tuesday (29th October, 2024) while they were escorting a polio vaccination team.
LEA sources have said that two attackers were eliminated following the killings.
Administering polio drops is a hazardous metier in certain areas of Pakistan. A polio worker was raped in the Detha village of Jacobabad, whereas another was shot dead in Bajaur along with a cop who was escorting him on 11th September ( 2024).
Unidentified gunmen shot a Polio worker and his police escort dead on the third day of the anti-polio campaign in Bajaur. The attack took place near Pak-Afghan border insinuating that the gunmen could be terrorists of IS based in Afghanistan. IS has claimed an IED attack on polio team a couple of days ago.
In order to sabotage the anti-polio campaign, that started in the region on 9th Sept (2024), miscreants attacked a police van by means of a remote-controlled bomb, injuring 6 cops and 7 civilians here at Kir Kot Road in the Wana Rustam Bazar.
While one gravely wounded was transported to D.I. Khan, the remaining dozen have been shifted to the Wana’s District Headquarters Hospital. According to details, 480 personnel had been deployed to protect 297 polio teams.
Many militants believe that Dr. Shakil Afridi, disguised as a member of hepatitis vaccination team, played the key role to get DNA of OBL’s family enabling CIA locate and eliminate him in Abbottabad. That’s why they attempt to target such workers whenever possible.
For instance, the Militants gunned a polio immunisation program’s official dead and injured a policeman in Bajaur area on 19th of January (2024) by opening fire on the vehicle they were travelling in.
The slain Dr. Abdul Rehman, who was working as the coordinator of the Polio Miscommunication Program in Bajaur, was coming from Khar’s District Headquarter Hospital when his car came under attack. Militants are told that the unfaithful (kafirs) are using the drops to sterilise Muslims.
