ISLAMABAD: Tahir Abbas Sipra, Judge of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) here, has convicted 10 rioters on Friday (23rd Nov, 2024) over the nationwide riots (that erupted on 9th May, 2023 due to the arrest of PTI Chief Imran Khan from IHC premises).
Out of 17 individuals who were booked under 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon) and a number of other Sections of PPC, one was discharged, six were declared absconders.
The court found that the ten accused brandishing sticks (and waving PTI flags) attacked cops, stole a police radio and riot gear, burned police vehicles and a police check post. He sentenced all ten rioters to 3 years incarceration and a fine of Rs. 20,000 each.
Four of the convicted ten were Afghans living in Pakistan (identified as: Dawood Khan, Younis Khan, Ehsanullah and Lal Agha). Other six were identified as: Abid Mahmood (from Islamabad), Ahsan Ayaz (from Islamabad), Matiullah (from Rawalpindi), Naeemullah (from Bajaur), Shaukat (from Bajaur), Zakirullah (from Bajaur).
