IK’s Final Call: Convoys Move Towards Capital

ISLAMABAD: Despite IHC’s orders (that termed PTI’s planned protest march and dharna at D-Chowk) unlawful, huge number of cops/para-military Rangers (duly equipped to tackle mobs), dug out/blocked roads, mobile/internet suspension, convoys have commenced moving towards the Capital (from Punjab and a number of places in KP, including Peshawar) on Sunday (24th November, 2024).

While, para-military force (Rangers) has been deployed to guard the Red Zone. IG Islamabad Ali Nasir has informed the Media here on Sunday that 300 PTI supporters/workers had been nabbed from the Capital who sneaked in the city before it was hermetically sealed by means of containers.

The administration here has imposed Section 144 (from 18th till 26th Nov), suspended Metro Bus Service, dug roads, placed containers on major arteries in order to stop PTI marchers from entering the Capital to stage a sit-in demanding release of Imran Khan and others incarcerated party workers.

It may be recalled that Imran Khan on 13th Nov had given the Final Call asking his supporters to converge here on Sunday 24th Nov to protest against:

1) Stolen mandate;

2) Unjust arrests; and

3) The way 26th constitutional amendment bill was passed which he said had strengthened a “dictatorial regime”.

Since Imran’s arrest in August 2023 on several counts, his party had been holding protests across the country for his release and against the alleged rigging of the 8th Feb polls.

Adiala Jail – harbouring PTI Chief – is one of the numerous locations that have been hermetically sealed by the thousands of cops deployed in the city to maintain law and order situation.

Islamabad administration, had sought 1200 containers and 22,000 security personnel (from FC, Punjab and Sindh Police). Anticipating a large number of protesters e, Capital Police also demanded 40,000 (long as well as short range) teargas shells, 2000 teargas lobbing guns, 2500 guns alongwith 50,000 rubber bullets and 5000 anti-riot gears.

While cynics go haywire wondering how PTI will arrange logistics for the power show, PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur, CM of KP, said: “Imran’s sister Aleema Khan has announced the date of protest, preparations have been completed and this time there will be no turning back”.

Commenting on Section 144 PTI leader Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra termed it malafied and illegal as it was imposed every time Imran Khan called for a protest.

PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh met lawyers associated with Karachi Bar Association, inviting them to participate in the march of Last Call: “The Karachi Bar Association has always played a pivotal role in defending the judiciary and upholding the law, especially in opposing the 26th constitutional amendment.”
