LONDON: 48 hours after the Trump-Zelenskyy Oval Office verbal skirmish, 17 leaders from Europe, Canada and Turkey met here on Sunday (2nd March, 2025) and assured Ukraine of their support.
Talking to Media at a Presser held on Sunday following the huddle UK PM Keir Starmer proclaimed:
1) That they would ensure military support to Ukraine;
2) That they would augment economic pressure on Russia;
3) That any lasting peace must ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and security and Ukraine must be present at any peace talks;
4) That defensive capabilities of Ukraine would be increased to avoid any future invasion.
During the Presser Starmer informed that (on top of £2.2bn loan) an additional £1.6bn will be provided enabling Ukraine to acquire 5000 air defense missiles.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky who too was present during the rendezvous stated that the Summit manifested “European unity at an extremely high level not seen for a long time”.
