GAZA: Hamas on Friday (14th March, 2024) has agreed to release 21-year-old Edan Alexander, the last American hostage held here.
According to details, following the receipt of proposal from mediators to continue parleys apropos the second phase of ceasefire deal, Hamas said it responded positively. The movement will also be returning the bodies of four dual nationality hostages.
It may be recalled that during the rendezvous with Hamas, US hostage negotiator Adam Boehler sought the release of Edan (who had also served as a soldier with the Israeli military). Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special Ambassador, had earlier said that his release was a top priority of White House.
Hamas, that has earlier released female soldiers and civilian women, did not demand much in return. But in the case of male soldier they are demanding much higher price. Incidentally, Eden Alexander will be the first male soldier hostage to be handed to Israelis.
