LONDON: Heathrow Airport, the world’s second busiest travel hub, took to the X Friday (21st March, 2025) to report massive disruption due to a power outage caused by a large fire nearby.
Asking passengers and staff to avoid approaching the Airport, authorities stated by means of Social Media: “Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and should contact their airline for further information. We apologise for the inconvenience.” It is pertinent to mention here that Counter Terror Police too are involved in fire probe.
Commenting on the development. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated: “I know the situation in Heathrow is causing distress and disruption, especially for those travelling or without power in their homes...I’m receiving regular updates and I’m in close contact with partners on the ground. Thanks to our emergency workers for keeping people safe.” Thirteen hundred and fifty flights were affected due to the closure.
Mayor Sadiq Khan held: “Heathrow Airport is closed today due to a power outage caused by a fire at a nearby electrical substation. The fire is having a significant impact on the local area with the airport closed, other businesses affected and homes left without power...I know this will be hugely frustrating for the many thousands expecting to travel to and from Heathrow today, the families who have had their power cut and the commuters who have had their journeys disrupted.”
