KARACHI: Many leaders of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), including Sammi Deen Baloch, were taken into custody by Police that dispersed a manifestation held at Fawwara Chowk near the Press Club here Monday (24th March, 2025).
According to details BYC had announced a protest in front of Karachi Press Club (KPC) against the arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch [(alongwith seventeen others,) during a crackdown on a dharna staged by them in Quetta recently. BYC also claimed three of their workers were shot dead by LEA personnel].
Following an hour-long protest, Police took twenty protesters into custody. Fourteen were released late evening. However, six (including Sammi Deen Baloch) were formally booked over violation of Section 144 (that was imposed by the Commissioner to prevent this manifestation), and were locked-up.
Later it transpired that five activists of BYC (Sammi Deen Baloch, Razzak Ali, Abdul Wahab Baloch, Shehdad and Sultan) were detained by the Govt. of Sindh under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for thirty days. According to the order their presence “is likely to pose grave threat to the public safety…”.
It is pertinent to mention here that the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Saryab Police Station (Quetta) accused, among others, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, (Beebow Baloch, Gulzadi Satakzai, Sabiha Baloch, Sabatullah Baloch, Gulzar Dost, Riaz Gashkori and Dr Shali Baloch) of terrorism, rebellion and murder.
Since the authorities, in order to contain the Baloch Yakjehti Committee’s protest, closed the roads near Karachi Press Club, a severe embouteillage was witnessed at 3.30PM. As a result a large number of people remained stranded and had iftaar on the roads. But by evening the traffic was restored.
