Mengal says govt negotiators lacked authority

LAKPASS: BNP’s chief Sardar Akhtar Mangal, while talking to Media here Wednesday (2nd April, 2025) has informed that details of new manifestations against arrest of BYC’s women activists would be announced on 3rd April.

Talking to the X he stated:“The delegation that visited us yesterday to negotiate on our legitimate demands lacked the authority to speak independently – they were mere messengers, with no real power, which lies with those who truly control the province, not the ineffective government. Tomorrow, April 3rd, 2025, at 5.00 PM, we will announce our next phase of demonstrations. If they believe they can distract us with these hollow negotiations, let it be clear: they’ve miscalculated once again...

“Senior… PTI officials, who were on their way to join the sit-in, were stopped from reaching the site. In response, trenches have been dug, more containers placed, and additional forces deployed. Every attempt the government makes to wash away its stains only ends up leaving it more tainted...

“Since late last night, all cellular networks and home WiFi in Balochistan have been shut down. The sole purpose of this blackout is the silence the voices of the oppressed. But no matter how many phones you disconnect, how many Baloch you abduct, or how many of us you imprison – we will continue to raise our voices. The more you try to suppress us , the louder will become”.

It may be recalled that despite a suicide attack carried out on 29th March, near the BNP-M rally at Lakpass area, led by Sardar Akhtar Mengal against the arrest of BYC’s female workers, he said that his party’s protest would not stop. Talking to journalists at a Presser Sardar Akhtar Mengal claimed that the suicide bombing was orchestrated by those who wanted to intimidate the BNP-M’s supporters.

Terming it a matter of dignity, he asserted that the party would continue the sit-in till the concerned agencies release all the BYC prisoners: “The government has crossed a red line by arresting the women”, he said. Maintaining that LEAs were neglecting their duties, Mengal said: “Their job is not to extort money from oil tankers but to ensure public safety.”According to Mengal the authorities have not taken measures to ensure the security of those staging dharna.

“What is their job? Is security not their responsibility?” Akhtar Mengal took to the X on 29th March, to comment on the suicide attack: “A failed attempt to make our protest unsuccessful once again….I’am safe with all party workers.” It may be recalled that in order to protest against the arrest of BYC’s Chief Organiser Dr. Mahrang Baloch and others, Akhtar Mengal wanted to lead a rally from Wadh (his native town) to Quetta but was denied permission by the government.
