Myanmar Quake: Death Toll Rises To 3500

SAGAING/MANDALAY (Myanmar): State Media here has confirmed on Sunday (6th April, 2025) the death of 3,500 people, as rain is creating more difficulties for the rescuers who are attempting to pull dead/wounded out of the rubble of bâtiments that collapsed due to the 7.7 magnitude tremor that hit the region on 28th March cutting off electricity and causing bridges to collapse all over the country.

State Media of Myanmar, that is dictated by Military Junta, further informed that 4,671 people got injured while 214 people still remain unaccounted for. UNDP further told that since their houses are badly damaged, an enormous number of people have been living in tents. But a 45-minute heavy rain accompanied by strong wind have lashed the makeshift houses augmenting the miseries of the affected. Furthermore, the rising temperature too added to the difficulties of the citoyens affected by the tremors and aid workers. International community, including Pakistan are sending relief goods to the region.

Myanmar’s ruling military junta, that had declared a state of emergency in six regions and states had requested global community for support. Myanmar’s iconic Ava Bridge collapsed, fissures appeared on the roads and buildings crumbled when 6.4-magnitude aftershock occurred few minutes later. Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra had declared a state of emergency. Citoyens inhabiting the Chinese province of Yunnan also experienced tremors measuring 7.9 magnitude. Quakes had been reported from Cambodia, Bangladesh and India as well.

ISLAMABAD: In order to provide immediate relief to the Myanmar people affected by the tremors, Pakistan had dispatched relief goods (tents, tarpaulins, blankets, ready-t-eat food, medicines and water purification Modules) by means of an air cargo flight from here to Yangon.
