Israeli Airport shut down due to Houthi missile strike

TEL AVIV: Ben Gurion Airport remained closed for half-an-hour Sunday (4th May, 2025) when a ballistic missile fired (by Iran-backed Houthis) from Yemen landed within the airport’s perimeter, injuring eight people, destroying one vehicle and a road.

Interestingly, not only the IDF failed to intercept the Houthis’ missile by means of long-range Arrow interceptor, the advanced THAAD anti-missile system, deployed here by USA too failed to stop the the missile from Yemen. Due to half hour closure flights were halted at the airport. This incidence exposed Israel’s venerability and the ability of Houthis to strike Israel.

Claiming responsibility Houthis pointed out that Sunday’s missile attack was in retaliation for the attack on Sana’a airport carried out recently. Houthis further warned the global airlines that they were unsafe at Ben Gurion Airport. Defence Minister of Israel warned: “Whoever harms us, we will strike them seven-fold.”

It may be recalled that on 17th April the US forces took action to eliminate the Houthis’ fuel source: “The objective of these (air) strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis,” said the CENTCOM statement. According to Houthi-affiliated Media, 58 people lost their lives, 126 got injured here in one of the deadliest attacks by US on Yemen.

“The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis”, CENTCOM posted on Social Media. Citing the reports that (in response to Gaza war) Houthis had launched 100 attacks since Nov, 2023 on shipping in Red Sea (they claimed were linked to Israel), US said that the bombardment on them would continue until they stop targeting the vessels.
