NEW DELHI: India, that has unilaterally annulled the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT, Sindh-Taas Agreement), following the gunning down of 26 tourists in IOK, has commenced Thursday (1st May, 2025) the flushing of reservoirs process in order to augment their capacity.
The state-run hydro-power company NHPC will remove sediment to enable the reservoirs hold enormous volumes of water that will accumulate when they will stop Indus flowing towards Pakistan.
According to details within three to five years India will be able to boost power generation in the area by four thousand megawatts by means of five hydroelectric power projects in Jammu & Kashmir:
i) Bursar,
ii) Dulhasti II,
iii) Swalkote,
iv) Uri Stage II and
v) Kirthai II.
