GAZA: Hamas has handed over Edan Alexander (the last known living American hostage here) to Red Cross on Monday (12th May, 2025) after 29 months in custody.
Tel Aviv-born Edan Alexander was taken hostage by Hamas following 7th Oct, 2023 cross-border attack, after several days of talks with the US. It is expected that following his release, a Hammas- Israel ceasefire would be reached and humanitarian aid would be allowed to enter Gaza.
The timings of release of the 21-year-old New Jersey native Edan Alexander (who was serving in the Israeli military near the border) is significant, as Donald Trump is commencing his Middle East tour from Tue (13th May), staying in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.
