ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of France H.E. Nicolas Galey and Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema reiterated the mutual commitment to further augment the Franco-Pak bilateral economic cooperation, advance shared goals of climate and sustainable development, during a rendezvous here on Thursday (29th May, 2025).
Country Director of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Vincent Thevenot, was also present in the meeting. Ambassador Nicolas Galey assured the minister of absolute support of French government and AFD for Pakistan’s development priorities. H.E. Galey reiterated his country’s commitment to endeavour closely with Pakistan to ensure the timely execution of ongoing projects, and early approval of the proposed initiatives.
Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema appreciated the continued support of French government through AFD and noted that France had been a valuable development partner in energy, urban development, municipal services, and technological advancement. While pointing out that fourteen projects were presently being implemented with the support of AFD, he told that seven more were in the pipeline. He hoped that those projects would soon be approved by the AFD board.
Ahad Cheema also talked about the significance of Rural Development and Climate Resilience initiative for Gilgit-Baltistan, KP and the Urban Wastewater Governance Project for major cities in Punjab. He also grasped at the opportunity to appreciate support of France apropos GSP-Plus status and maintained that the arrangement was crucial for increasing the volume of Pakistani exports to EU.
