Israel intercepts Madleen, the Gaza-bound aid ship

JERUSALEM: While Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) claimed that IDF had illegally boarded the Gaza-bound aid bateau Madleen, Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs took to the X on 9th June to state that the vessel was safely making its way to the shores of Israel and, “the passengers are expected to return to their home countries”.

Israel will soon deport the 12 activists who were taken into custody from Madleen, including Greta Thunberg, Rima Hassan, Baptiste Andre, Pascal Maurieras, Yanis Mhamdi and Reva Viard from France; Thiago Avila from Brazil; Suayb Ordu from Turkiye; Sergio Toribio from Spain; Marco van Rennes from the Netherlands; Yasemin Acar from Germany; and Omar Faiad (a Media person) from France.

On 8th June, Defence Minister Israel Katz has ordered IDF to block Gaza-bound aid flotilla Madeleen, harboring twelve activists.

Katz stated: “I have instructed the military to prevent the Madleen flotilla from reaching Gaza…Israel will not allow anyone to break the naval blockade of Gaza, which is aimed at preventing weapons from reaching Hamas – a murderous terrorist group holding our hostages and committing war crimes…Israel will act against any attempt to break the blockade or support terror groups – by sea, air or land.”

Sailing boat Madleen (operated by Freedom Flotilla Coalition), that set sail from Sicily last Sunday (1st June), endeavoured to enter the territorial waters of Gaza breaching naval blockade imposed by Israel in order to deliver aid supplies and to highlight humanitarian tragedy in the enclave. It may be recalled that earlier another such vessel too was halted by means of two drones.
