Will 6th round of US-Iran talks take place on 15th June

OMAN: It seems unlikely that the 6th round of US-Iran Nuclear dialogue will take place on Sunday (15th June, 2025) following Israel’s launching of its biggest-ever military strike against Iran, which Tehran believes has US support.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has stated on Saturday (14th June) that US had acted in a way that makes dialogue meaningless: “You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time divide work by allowing the Zionist regime to target Iran’s territory.”

Officials from USA and Iran converged to discuss Irani nuclear program here on 12th April which was termed a step forward by the White House, while Tehran called it productive.

Following a 150-minute rendezvous both sides agreed to continue the parleys next week. It is pertinent to mention here that ahead of the talks Irani Foreign Minister Araghchi stated: “Our goal is to reach a just and respectful agreement and on equal footing. If the other side also comes from a similar approach, then this will be an opportunity for an initial understanding, which will lead to the path to negotiations. Foreign Minister Araghchi said they would work together and put further efforts to assist in arriving at the goal.

Foreign Minister of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi by means of the X stated that the talks “took place in a friendly atmosphere conducive to bridging viewpoints and ultimately achieving regional and global peace, security and stability.”

Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, took to the X on 10th April to comment on the pressure being exerted by USA: “Continued external threats and putting Iran under the conditions of a military attack could lead to deterrent measures like the expulsion of IAEA inspectors and ceasing cooperation with it…Transferring enriched material to safe and undisclosed locations in Iran could also be on the agenda”.

US President Donald Trump had threatened to attack Iran if it failed to agree to a nuclear deal. President of Iran Masoud Pazeshkian, while referring to Trump’s correspondence sent to the Irani Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (on 6th March, inviting him to come to the negotiating table to ponder over a nuclear deal), said during a cabinet meeting on 30th March that his country had responded.

“We responded to the US president’s letter via Oman and rejected the option of direct talks, but we are open to indirect negotiations,” Masoud Pezeshkian told. It is pertinent to mention here that Trump in his message for parlays, also threatened bombings and secondary tariffs if Tehran did not sign an agreement apropos its nuclear program. Khamenei, while dismissing Trump’s warning said Iran would only engage in talks by means of intermediaries.
