MOSCOW: Russia, rejecting American President Donald Trump’s peace formula, has attacked Kyiv Friday (4th July, 2025) by means of 539 drones and 11 cruise missiles injuring 23 people, damaging railway infrastructure and setting buildings and vehicles on fire.
Ukraine, while commenting on the overnight launching of missiles and drones, (that is reckoned as the largest aerial attack in the 1,226 day war so far) claimed that its air defence had shot 270 drones down while redirected 208 others.
Taking to the X Zelenskyy stated: “Firefighting efforts and debris removal are still ongoing after another Russian strike. This was one of the most large-scale air attacks – deliberately massive and cynical. In total, 550 targets were launched, including at least 330 Russian-Iranian “shaheds”, along with missiles, including ballistic ones.
“The first air raid alerts in our cities and regions yesterday began to blare almost simultaneously with media reports discussing a phone call between President Trump and Putin. Yet again, Russia is showing it has no intention of ending the war and terror. Only around 9 a.m. today did the air raid alert end in Kyiv. It was a brutal, sleepless night.
“The capital was the main target of this Russian strike. Our warriors managed to shoot down 270 aerial targets, while another 208 drones were jammed by electronic warfare. Interceptor drones have started operating – dozens of drones were taken down. We are doing everything possible to develop this element of defense for our cities. And it is critically important that our partners continue to support us in defending against ballistic missiles. Patriots and the missiles for them are true protectors of life.
“In total, today’s Russian strike affected not only Kyiv but also the Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions. As of now, 23 people are known to have been wounded. Everyone is receiving assistance. There are many sites where drone and missile debris fell. Sadly, there were also direct hits.
“All of this is clear evidence that without truly large-scale pressure, Russia will not change its dumb, destructive behavior. For every such strike against people and human life, they must feel appropriate sanctions and other blows to their economy, their revenues, and their infrastructure. This is the only thing that can be achieved quickly to change the situation for the better. And it depends on our partners, primarily the United States.”
US President Donald Trump, who had a conversation with President Vladimir Putin on Thursday (3rd July), held: “I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don’t think he’s there, and I’m very disappointed…I’m just saying I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad.”
It may be recalled that after the 9th June attack Air Force of Ukraine claimed to have shot down or intercepted 460 out of 479 Russian drones fired. Kyiv, further claiming that it had also blocked nineteen out of twenty missiles, said it had successfully attacked a Russian drone factory overnight.
Retaliating to drone attacks conducted to destroy bombers, Russia launched 48 drones, two missiles and four gliding bombs Friday (6th June, 2025) to hit Ukraine’s second largest city destroying 13 apartment buildings, 13 houses, other batiments, killing 3 and injuring 21.
A day before too in retaliation to the Kyiv’s recent drone & missile attacks, Russia had pounded Ukraine, killing three people, wounding many others, damaging infrastructure and disrupting utilities. According to sources Russia attacked six regions of Ukraine by means of 450 drones and (cruise, ballistic) missiles.
Kyiv claimed to have shot 230 down. It may be recalled that following the 2nd telephonic contact with Putin on 4th June, Trump had revealed that Russia was all set to retaliate to the weekend drone attacks on Russian airfields carried out by Ukraine.
Taking to the Truth Social Trump said: “We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides. It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace...President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack.”
Kyiv had claimed that it had struck 34% of Russian Bombers inflicting a financial loss of US $ seven million to Russia. Ukraine’s domestic intelligence agency SBU stated by means of a social Media platform: “We’re doing all we can to drive the enemy from our land! We’ll strike them at sea, in the air and on land. If necessary, we’ll get them from underground”.
