It is pertinent to mention here that in the month of June, 2025 Ukraine witnessed the highest monthly civilian casualties (232 killed, 1343 wounded) since the skirmishes commenced 3 years ago.

The Chinese Connection: It may be recalled that on 2nd July, following a four-hour-long meeting with the Chief of EU Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that his country could not accept Ukraine winning the war against Russia.
It has been reported that, contrary to Beijing’s public stand of neutrality, Foreign Minister Wang Yi privately told Kaja Kallas that Russian defeat would enable United States to focus uniquely on China.
Savants at the helm of affairs, while deciphering Chinese foreign minister’s remark insinuated that China would prefer a prolonged war in Ukraine to stop USA concentrating fully on it.
Later, on 4th July, Chinese spokesperson Mao Ning said during a regular briefing in Beijing: “China is not a party to the Ukraine issue…China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is objective and consistent, that is, negotiation, ceasefire and peace.
“A prolonged Ukraine crisis serves no one’s interests. Together with the international community and in light of the will of the parties concerned, we will continue playing a constructive role towards this end.”
