BEIJING: Proclamation by Chinese PM, Monday (21st July, 2025) that his country had commenced building the world’s largest $170 billion hydro-power dam on Tibetan Plateau, has disturbed its neighbours.
India and Bangladesh have expressed their reservations saying that millions of their citoyens living downstream would bear the brunt. Environmentalists lament that the construction of would harm the plateau harboring one of the richest and most divers environments that the plateau harbors.
Producing 300 billion kilowatt – hours of electricity per annum this Dam will be made up of 5 cascade hydro-power stations. It will be located in the lower reaches of Yarlung Zangbo, a part of which tumbles two thousand meters in a span of fifty kilometres. Then its location in a seismically active zone too disturbs the savants.
