NEW DELHI: While India proclaimed it would continue buying oil from Russia despite Trump’s Tariff threats, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller came up with a nouvelle accusation that New Delhi was financing Moscow’s war against Ukraine by buying its oil!
“What he (Trump) said very clearly is that it is not acceptable for India to continue financing this war by purchasing the oil from Russia,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that a 25% tariff on Indian products exported to the United States went into effect on Friday (1st August, 2025).
Talking to Media at weekly Presser on 1st August, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that India’s broader stance on securing its energy needs was guided by the availability of oil in the markets and prevailing global circumstances.
