IK granted bail in eight 9/5/23 cases

ISLAMABAD: PTI Founder & former PM Imran Khan has been granted bail in eight 9th May, 2023 riots cases by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Thursday (21st August, 2025).

It is pertinent to mention here that Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Amjad Ali Shah had indicted Imran Khan in 9 May, 2023 GHQ attack case. Conspicuous among hundred individuals who had been indicted include Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub, Former provincial law minister Raja Basharat and PTI Leader Zartaj Gul etc.

Taking to the X PTI maintained: “The arrest of the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub* and former Punjab law minister Raja Basharat** in a fabricated case exposes the reality of an undeclared martial law in Pakistan. The regime is weaponizing institutions to crush opposition, and dismantle free speech. Such acts reflect desperation, not strength!” ((*Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub* & former Punjab law minister Raja Basharat** were later released by the ATC.)

Later, a Lahore ATC had denied Imran bail in the cases related to the May 9, 2023 riots. The incarcerated PTI leader’s plea challenging that was also rejected by the Lahore High Court (LHC). Hence IK knocked the doors of the Apex Court. A three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi and comprising Justices Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Hasan Azhar Rizvi resumed hearing the petitions today.

It may be recalled that following IK’s arrest PTI activists/supporters attacked military installations, Jinnah House (harboring the family of Lahore Corps Commander), other state-owned buildings all over Pakistan. As a result thousands of workers and office-bearers were taken into custody.
