KARACHI: 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Peshawar, Mansehra, Islamabad, Abbottabad and Swat on Tuesday (2nd Sept, 2025) at 5.30pm.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 22 kms in SE Afghanistan, 34 kilometres northeast of Jalalabad city in Nangarhar province.

It may be recalled that on 31st August magnitude six quake killed 1411, injured 3124 people and destroyed 5400 houses in the eastern provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar. Since the epicentre was situated in the rough mountainous terrain, rescuers were finding it very difficult to reach the victims trapped under the rubble. According to sources all the batiments in numerous villages have been flattened by the tremors. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated: “I stand in full solidarity with the people of Afghanistan after the devastating earthquake that hit the country earlier today.” Taking to X, delegation of the European Union to Afghanistan stated: “The EU extends its heartfelt condolences to all affected by the recent devastating earthquake in Afghanistan’s Kunar & Nangarhar provinces. Our humanitarian partners are actively on the ground, providing critical aid to the victims. We stand in full solidarity with Afghans.”
