Amir of Qatar attends Namaz-e-Janaza for the 6 slain by Israel

DOHA: Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani joined the congregation converged at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque here on Thursday (11th Sept, 2025) to offer namaz-e-janaza of the five Palestinians and one Qatari (Lance Corporal) who were killed by Israel a day earlier.

Hamas maintained that the group’s senior negotiating team, led by Dr. Khalil al-Hayya,, gathered in Doha, was targeted by Israel but no leader was hurt. Qatar said it would not tolerate that reckless Israeli behaviour and the continuous tampering with the security of the region.

Taking to the X, Office of the Israeli PM stated: “Today’s action against the top terrorist chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation. Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility.”

According to Shin Bet, PM Netanyahu was at the department’s headquarters when the Hamas delegation was struck in Doha by ten Israeli jets. Israel claimed that it had conducted a precise strike and those targeted were directly responsible for the 7 Oct, 2023 attack.

It may be recalled that Hammas ambushed Israel, killed 1200 and took 251 hostage a couple of years ago. In response 65,000 Palestinians were killed and most of the batiments in the strip were transformed into chips by means of continuous aerial bombardment.

US, that was informed about the sorties in advance, maintained: “…we don’t believe the leaders of a vicious terrorist organisation should be living comfortably anywhere, and that certainly includes in a major city of one of our key allies and partners….A number of these individuals are under US indictment, have been under US indictment for some time, and we believe that they should be turned over to the United States.”

US diplomatic mission in Doha stated: “We have seen reports of missile strikes occurring in Doha. The US Embassy has instituted a shelter-in-place order for their facilities. US citizens, who were earlier advised to shelter-in-place, have been told hours later that the advice was lifted. American expatriates have been asked to monitor US Embassy Doha social media for updates.

President Trump, while expressing disapproval, informed that by the time Israel informed his administration about sending of ten sorties, and they notified (their ally) Doha, there was little he could do to stop it.

Responding to Trump’s (rare) criticism, Envoy of Jerusalem to UN told Israeli Radio 103FM that his country did not always act in the interests of the US: “We are coordinated, they give us incredible support, we appreciate that,…

“…but sometimes we make decisions and inform the United States. It was not an attack on Qatar; it was an attack on Hamas. We are not against Qatar, nor against any Arab country, we are currently against a terrorist organisation.”

Ambassador of Doha to Washington, Sheikh Meshal, took to the pages of The WSJ to remind that: “The Hamas political office in Qatar was opened in 2012 after a request from Washington to establish indirect lines of communication with Hamas!”

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari, proclaimed via X: “The State of Qatar strongly condemns the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential buildings housing several members of the Political Bureau of Hamas in the Qatari capital, Doha.

This criminal assault constitutes a blatant violation of all international laws and norms, and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar. The Ministry affirms that the security forces, civil defense, and relevant authorities immediately began addressing the incident..

“… and taking necessary measures to contain its repercussions and ensure the safety of the residents and surrounding areas. While the State of Qatar strongly condemns this assault, it confirms that it will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behavior…

“… and the ongoing disruption of regional security, nor any act that targets its security and sovereignty. Investigations are underway at the highest level, and further details will be announced as soon as they are available.”

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stated that it: “… condemns and denounces, in the strongest possible terms, the brutal Israeli aggression and the blatant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar. The Kingdom affirms its full solidarity and support for Qatar,…

“…placing all its capabilities at its disposal to assist in any measures it may take, while warning of the grave consequences of the Israeli occupation’s persistent criminal assaults and its blatant violations of the principles of international law and all international norms.”

UAE, taking to the social media platform X, called on the global community to deter Israel and “halt these barbaric Israeli attacks, stressing that the continuation of this aggressive approach reflects reckless behaviour that will push the region towards further tension and escalation, undermining the chances of achieving security and stability”.

Türkiye maintained: “The targeting of the Hamas negotiating delegation while ceasefire talks continue shows that Israel does not aim to reach peace, but rather continue the war…This situation is clear proof that Israel has adopted its expansionist politics in the region and terrorism as a state policy.”

Iran held: “This extremely dangerous and criminal action is a gross violation of all international rules and regulations, a violation of Qatar’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Chinese MFA spokesman said: “China strongly condemns Israel’s Sept 9 attack in Doha and firmly opposes Israel’s violation of Qatar’s territorial integrity and national security. We are deeply concerned that the attack could lead to further escalation in the region, …

“…and we disapprove of the actions taken to deliberately jeopardise Gaza ceasefire talks. This attack has everything to do with the deeply tilted stance of certain non-regional country on the Middle East issue. China strongly calls for efforts, especially from Israel, to end the conflict and resume talks, instead of the other way around.”
