Ransomware attack: Man arrested, released

LONDON: According to National Crime Agency (NCA) a man in his 40s was nabbed here as part of probe into the ransomware attack that affected the electronic booking of passengers on Tuesday (23rd Sept, 2025).

The suspect of ransomware attack was later released on conditional bail: “Although this arrest is a positive step, the investigation into this incident is in its early stages and remains ongoing,” NCA Deputy Director Paul Foster said.

Ransomware hackers attacked MUSE software of RTX owned check-in and boarding systems provider Collins Aerospace. As a result major European airports were hit with delays and cancellations as the cyberattack affected boarding systems.

By means of emails RTX maintained about ransomware: “The impact is limited to electronic customer check-in and baggage drop and can be mitigated with manual check-in operations”.

Airports (Heathrow, Brussels and Berlin Brandenburg) that were targeted by ransomware attackers, saw long queues of voyagers due to numerous cancellations and delays.
