TLP resumes march after overnight sit-in

LAHORE: Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) workers, led by their chief Saad Hussain Rizvi, who commenced their march (to express solidarity with Palestine) from Multan Road in the Walled City after Namaz-e-Jumma on 10th Oct, resumed their march towards US Embassy in Islamabad, on Sunday (12th Oct) after an overnight sit-in here.

According to sources one of the participants of the Labbaik Al-Aqsa Million March lost his life, while dozens got injured when the protesters clashed violently with Police as the manifestation was carried out in defience of section 144 imposed by the provincial Government. Many TLP marchers have been arrested. Ahead of TLP protest the local administration here has blocked roads and suspended the internet services paralysing parts of the city.

It may be recalled that TLP had announced a manifestation in front of US diplomatic mission in the Capital, taking advantage of the revered Friday when people congregate in large numbers for Jumma prayers at mosques. TLP workers had been instructed by their leader to converge at Faizabad Interchange (known for TLP sit-ins in the past).

Participants of the March had been instructed to move towards Red Zone harboring embassies including that of USA. The authorities jammed the mobiles and made sure that the Faizabad Interchange was hermetically closed by means of shipping containers. TLP has requested the Capital administration of provide security to ‘Labbaik Al-Aqsa Million March’.

Anticipating a big rally, Islamabad-Rawalpindi administration sealed key entry points to the twin cities by means of shipping containers. Moreover, metrobus service has been suspended, mobile internet facility has been cut. TLP claimed that Police had used accessive force and resorted to firing live rounds beside lobbing tear gas shells.
