TLP Riots: Section 144 imposed across Punjab

LAHORE: Since there is a possibility of agitation carried out by TLP activists after Namaz-e-Jumma on Friday (17th October, 2025), local govt has imposed Section 144 till Saturday across the Province of Punjab.

Following a rendezvous to review the post-TLP-agitation state-of-affairs, that was chaired by IGP Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar on Thursday (16th Oct, 2025), the IGP took to the X to warn:

“Tomorrow (on 17th Oct, 2025), no one will be allowed to come on the streets under the guise of strike and take law into their own hands. The protection of citizens’ lives & property and law enforcement will be ensured at all costs. Markets, business centers, transport, highways will remain open.

Cases will be registered against those attempting to create law and order situation, under anti-Terrorism Act. The miscreants will face punishment of 10 to 14 years. Data of all the agitators has been fed into Safe City Patrolling Vehicles Cameras and They will be identified by means of AI-based technology.

Dozens of mischief makers, wanted by Punjab Police under ATA 7, will be arrested with the help of artificial intelligence-based technology. 27,000 personnel of Punjab Police will on duty on the streets, 12,000 Special Branch personnel will apprehend mischief makers by means of Intelligence Engines.”

Following a sit-in and deadly clash with Police here, a raid was conducted at the house of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP)’s Chief Saad Hussain Rizvi Tuesday (14th Oct, 2025) that yielded cash and jewellery worth Rs. 20 crores.

TLP, claiming that its chief Saad Hussain Rizvi had been shot and injured on 13th Oct, took to the streets of major cities, blocked main arteries and resorted to burning and turning. Police stated that workers of TLP, who camped at Muridke attempting to go to the Capital in order to protest at US Embassy (there against American brokerage of Gaza issue), had been dispersed Monday.

During the TLP clash with LEAs personnel, (including para-military force called Rangers), SHO Factory Area Sheikhupura Shahzad Nawaz was shot dead, while three workers of TLP had been neutralised. 56 people got injured as protesters set 40 (private and Govt. vehicles) on fire.

Earlier thousands of TLP workers, led by Saad Hussain Rizvi, who commenced their march (to express solidarity with Palestine) from Multan Road in the Walled City after Namaz-e-Jumma on 10th Oct, resumed their march towards US Embassy in Islamabad, to voice its opposition to the US-brokered truce between Israel and Hamas, on Sunday (12th Oct) after an overnight sit-in here.

It may be recalled that TLP had announced a manifestation in front of US diplomatic mission in the Capital, (taking advantage of the revered Friday when people congregate in large numbers for Jumma prayers at mosques). TLP workers had been instructed by their leader to converge at Faizabad Interchange (known for TLP sit-ins in the past).
