ISLAMABAD: Citing Anti-Terrorism Act, Federal Cabinet chaired by PM here on Thursday (23rd Oct, 2025) has banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) over its violent activities carried out all over Pakistan.


The Cabinet Meeting was also joined by Senior Punjab’s Officials by means of video link. It is pertinent to mention here that it was the Provincial Govt that had formally requested imposition of ban on TLP. The decision had been made after cabinet members were informed about the violent history of TLP that was formed in 2016.

ISLAMABAD: During the briefing the Federal Cabinet was informed that TLP-led violence claimed lives of security personnel.

It may be recalled that TLP was declared a proscribed organisation back in 2021 too. Six months later the imposed ban was lifted when TLP pledged that it would not stage any violent manifestation. Interior Ministry has been directed to carry out all legal and administrative steps in order to implement the ban.

Despite the lifting of ban TLP resorted to agitation. Since there was a possibility of agitation carried out by TLP activists after Namaz-e-Jumma on Friday (17th October, 2025), local govt has imposed Section 144 till Saturday across the Province of Punjab.

Following a rendezvous to review the post-TLP-agitation state-of-affairs, that was chaired by IGP Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar on Thursday (16th Oct, 2025), the IGP took to the X to warn:
“Tomorrow (on 17th Oct, 2025), no one will be allowed to come on the streets under the guise of strike and take law into their own hands. The protection of citizens’ lives & property and law enforcement will be ensured at all costs. Markets, business centers, transport, highways will remain open.
“Cases will be registered against those attempting to create law and order situation, under anti-Terrorism Act. The miscreants will face punishment of 10 to 14 years. Data of all the agitators has been fed into Safe City Patrolling Vehicles Cameras and They will be identified by means of AI-based technology.
“Dozens of mischief makers, wanted by Punjab Police under ATA 7, will be arrested with the help of artificial intelligence-based technology. 27,000 personnel of Punjab Police will on duty on the streets, 12,000 Special Branch personnel will apprehend mischief makers by means of Intelligence Engines.”
