MANHATTAN: 34-year-old American-Ugandan, Democratic-Socialist Muslim, Zohran Mamdani, has won mayoral polls held on Tuesday (4th Nov, 2025), due to his focus on working-class issues.
In his victory speech Zohran Mamdani, the youngest Mayor-elect of NYC in a century to be inaugurated in January, said: “In this moment of political darkness, New York will be the light…Together, we will usher in a generation of change, and if we embrace this brave new course, rather than fleeing from it, we can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves.”
Challenging the President, the 111th Mayor of NYC said: “So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up.”
Addressing to the ladies and gentlemen who converged at the Brooklyn Paramount, Zohran Mamdani stated: “The sun may have set over our city this evening, but I can see the dawn of a better day for humanity…Tonight, against all odds, we have grasped it. The future is in our hands…My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty…New York, tonight you have delivered a mandate for change, a mandate for a new kind of politics, a mandate for a city we can afford.”
Thanking his supporters Mamdani said: “Thank you to the next generation of New Yorkers who refused to accept that the promise of a better future was a relic of the past. You showed that when politics speaks to you without condescension, we can usher in a new era of leadership. We will fight for you because we are you.”
Speaking about Democrats Mamdani maintained: “I think this has to be a party that actually allows Americans to see themselves in it and not just be a mirror image of just a few people who are engaged in politics. To me, what binds all of us together is who we are fighting to serve, and that is working people.”
Meanwhile, politicians in Jerusalem are attempting to tag him as Hamas Supporter. Minister of diaspora affairs and combating anti-Semitism, Amichai Chikli, taking to the X called him, “A supporter of Hamas, someone whose views are not far from those of the fanatic jihadists who murdered three thousand people 25 years ago!”
Mamdani, who has never expressed his support for Hamas publicly, and described the 7th October, 2023 attacks as a horrific war crime stated: “I don’t really have opinions about the future of Hamas and Israel beyond the question of justice and safety and the fact that anything has to abide by international law, and that applies to Hamas, that applies to the Israeli military and that applies to anyone you could ask me about.”
