Russia to test nuclear weapons

MOSCOW: Retaliating to President Donald Trump proclamation last week that US would resume testing nuclear weapons, President Vladimir Putin on Wed (5th Nov, 2025) has asked the concerned authorities in Russia to study the matter.

According to details, during the Security Council meeting, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov informed President Vladimir Putin apropos endeavours by Pentagon to modernize its atomic arsenals, significantly increasing the level of military threats to Russia.

Belousov, pointed out that Soviet Union tested its last nuclear weapon in 1990 on Arctic Novaya Zemlya archipelago. Suggesting that Moscow should immediately start preparations for nuclear tests on it, he informed that the explosions could be resumed over there.

Russian military’s Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov warned: “If we don’t take appropriate measures now, we will miss the time and opportunity to respond promptly to the US actions, as it takes from several months to several years to prepare for nuclear tests, depending on their type.”

Following the brain storming, President Vladimir Putin stated: “I am instructing the Foreign Ministry, the Defence Ministry … the special services and relevant civilian agencies to do everything possible to collect additional information on the issue, analyse it at the Security Council and make agreed proposals on the possible start of work on the preparation of nuclear weapons tests.”

It is pertinent to mention here that since disintegration of USSR back in 1991, Russia did not test nuclear weapons. Savants at the helm of affairs are keenly observing the development, wondering would the two countries augment the geopolitical temperature to the the point of no return.

Maintaining that no one else in the world has it Putin said: “We need to determine the possible ways of using it and start preparing the infrastructure for deploying this weapon.” Chief of General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, informed that during the test Burevestnik cruise missile had manifested its high capabilities in evading anti-missile and anti-aircraft defences.
