LONDON: Following criticism over US President Donald Trump documentary edit, BBC Director General, Tim Davie and the Chief Executive of News Deborah Turness have resigned on Sunday (9th Nov, 2025).
Panorama, investigative documentary series of BBC, broadcast a program a week before US polls. In which Donald Trump’s speech was doctored, splicing together footage from the start of his speech (at 12.16 Noon) with something he said 54 minutes later (at 1.10 PM). Audience was made to believe that Trump was encouraging the Capitol Hill riot by saying that he was going to walk to the Capitol with his supporters to fight like hell. Whereas, Trump said that he was going to walk to the Capitol “to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”.

Donald Trump has written a letter to BBC threatening legal action. Earlier, taking to Truth Social, he wrote: “The TOP people in the BBC, including TIM DAVIE, the BOSS, are all quitting/FIRED, because they were caught “doctoring” my very good (PERFECT!) speech of January 6th…Thank you to The Telegraph for exposing these Corrupt Journalists. These are very dishonest people who tried to step on the scales of a Presidential Election. On top of everything else, they are from a Foreign Country, one that many consider our Number One Ally. What a terrible thing for Democracy!”
Earlier, The Telegraph was approached by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt: “This purposefully dishonestly, selectively edited clip by the BBC is further evidence that they are total, 100 per cent fake news that should no longer be worth the time on the television screens of the great people of the United Kingdom.”
Commenting on the development, DG of BBC, Tim Davie stated: “This is entirely my decision, and I remain very thankful to the Chair and Board for their unswerving and unanimous support throughout my entire tenure, including during recent days. I have been reflecting on the very intense personal and professional demands of managing this role over many years in these febrile times, combined with the fact that I want to give a successor time to help shape the Charter plans they will be delivering,” Tim Dave added.
While harboring on the subject of controversial documentary on US President Donald Trump, BBC Chief Executive of News, Deborah Turness admitted: “As the CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs, the buck stops with me.” BBC chair said sorry for Trump speech edit and apologised for error of judgement. However, chair rejected the allegation of systematic bias. UK PM supported strong BBC.

Gang attempted to access BBC systems: It may be recalled that Joe Tidy, Cyber correspondent of BBC, was contacted recently by a gang of criminals that opted to be called the Syndicate or Syn in this case.
The Syn pinged Joe Tidy in the month of July on the encrypted chat app Signal. The gang wanted to access BBC systems by means of Joe Tidy’s laptop. He was promised 25% cut of the ransom money.
Hackers wanted to obtain data or install malicious software in order to extract a huge ransom money from BBC, the employers of Joe Tidy. When a senior BBC editor encouraged him, Joe Tidey played along with the Syn.
Syn told Joe Tidy that they would demand the amount in bitcoins: “We aren’t sure how much the BBC pays you but what if you took 25% of the final negotiation as we extract 1% of the BBC’s total revenue? You wouldn’t need to work ever again.”
