278th annual Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai formally inaugurated

HYDERABAD: The annual celebration of 278th Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai started here on Wednesday by laying a floral wreath by Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh Fayaz Ali Butt.
After the formal inauguration of the annual Urs, Fayaz Ali Butt offered fateha and prayed for the development and prosperity of the country.
He also distributed clothes among poor women in the courtyard of the shrine of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

Speaking on the occasion, Fayaz Ali Butt said Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai gave the message of peace, love, and brotherhood in his everlasting poetry.
There is a need to follow the message of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai to create an atmosphere of peace and brotherhood in the world in general and Pakistan in particular, Butt said.
He said as per the recommendation of the National Command and Operation Centre, the government has decided not to celebrate Urs as usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The health of people is more important than celebrations, therefore, we must adhere to the standard operating procedures and maintain social distancing to curb the spread of the virus, Advisor to CM said.
He appealed to the devotees to follow COVID-19 SOPs as prevention and vaccination were necessary to defeat this contagion.
The advisor was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Matiari and other officials during his visit to the shrine.
The parliamentary secretary and MPA Heer Sohu also paid a visit to the Dargah and laid a floral wreath at the grave of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and offered fateha.
Sindh government has announced a public holiday across the province on 14th Safar (22nd of September) on eve of the Urs. However, the provincial government has postponed official events for the celebration of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Urs due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The government has also taken stringent security measures and 600 policemen including 5 DSPs and15 SHOs were deputed to maintain security at the premises of the Dargah and surrounding areas.
