RAJANPUR: As Army took control of the operation Zarb-e-Ahan and gunship helicopters commenced targeting the bandits, at least 40 members belonging to Ghulam Rasool alias Chotu’s Gang have surrendered.

During 18 days of ongoing operation, ten policemen lost their lives and several received bullet wounds. 27 policemen have also been taken hostage by over 100 dacoits hiding in the kacha area. The relatives of the hostages have shown their concern.

Army and paramilitary have taken control of some parts of kacha as gangsters retreat deeper in the bushes. Meanwhile, the occupants of the nearby hotels have biometrically been screened.

Earlier it was believed that criminals were using women and children as human shield. It was said that police was not utilizing full force to avoid collateral damage. To end this stalemate IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera has requested the Corps Commander Multan for Army assistance.
