60 graduates in US sponsored English Works Program

KARACHI: Sixty students, aged between 17-25, have successfully completed the US government-funded English Works Program focused on improving job-related English and business communication skills among disadvantaged young people.
The six-month program to improve students’ employment and educational prospects (and in many cases, their ability to support their families) is for youth from underprivileged backgrounds, also considered “at-risk”.
English Works Program aimed at enhancing business communication skills, including professional level English, also introduced young adults to U.S. values such as volunteerism, diversity, tolerance, along with cultural and religious pluralism. The program provided participants up to 12 hours per week of classroom instruction in English vocabulary, grammar, and writing for use in workplace environments.
Consul General JoAnne Wagner speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony congratulated the English Works graduates. The Consul General also spoke about US support in the education realm in Pakistan to help people gain empowerment in the truest sense.
