HAGUE: After losing an appeal against lengthy imprisonment, the 72-year-old Bosnian war (1992-95) criminal Slobodan Praljak committed suicide right in front of the judge.

Shouting that he was not a criminal the ex-commander of Bosnian Croat forces drank from a phial containing deadly poison.

The shocking act of the ex-commander of Bosnian Croat forces came following  his two-decade-long sentence for atrocities committed in Mostar was upheld.

Right after drinking the contents of a small bottle he said: “I just drank poison…I am not a war criminal. I oppose this conviction”.

He was rushed to hospital from the crime scene (the UN court) but he died there.
