SUKKUR: An accountability court here has sent Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah on 8-day physical remand.
Shah, the former opposition leader in the National Assembly has been handed over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the assets beyond known sources of income case.
The remand of PPP stalwart was granted by the accountability court judge Ameer Ali Mahesar during his appearance in the court. During the movement, strict security measures were ensured and roads heading towards the court were also blocked by placing barricades.
A large number of PPP workers had reached outside the court to show solidarity with the arrested party leader.
The hearing was adjourned for half an hour, as NAB’s prosecutor failed to present relevant documents regarding Shah’s arrest in the court. After the court resumed hearing, the bureau officials pleaded the court to hand over the accused for 15 days, but the court granted remand of eight days only.
The court also ordered to provide medical facilities and homemade food to the PPP leader, during NAB custody.
The PPP leader, who was arrested in asset beyond means case on September 18, was shifted to Sukkur by NAB on Friday. He is alleged to have made properties in Sukkur, Rohri and Karachi.
