Apple to launch ‘COVID-19’ app, website

CALIFORNIA: Apple Inc. has announced that it was working to launch an app and website for the COVID-19 on its app store. The US-based multinational technology company says that the app will be titled as COVID-19 which will be used as screening tool to check the disease caused by coronavirus.

The iPhone maker further says that the work on the project is being finalized with cooperation of Trump administration and federal agencies.

“COVID-19 will soon be available on app store. It will be used to direct users to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on the disease caused by the coronavirus,” said a handout released by the company on Friday.

A White House official also confirmed the development saying that the COVID-19 app will ask users questions about symptoms, location and risk factors and then provide the appropriate up-to-date guidance from the CDC.

The official further added that all the official information by the CDC will be made available on the app and it will allow the users to post their frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the coronavirus epidemic and get answers.

“The same information [regarding coronavirus] will be available at the website www.apple.com/covid19 that will be accessible to the users of Windows PCs, Android phones and other non-Apple devices,” he added.

On the other hand, Apple said that it will respect the privacy of users and will not collect the answers they give to the app and website’s questions.

“No answers by the users of the app and website will be collected, either by the Apple or any government entity,” the company said.

It should be noted that due to the ongoing pandemic of coronavirus in the world, many countries including the USA have imposed lockdown and shut all the industries. Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, northern California have also been under lockdown orders for more than a week.
