Cricket: Pakistan wins series 2-0 beating S. Africa

RAWALPINDI: With the help of medium pacer Hasan Ali’s 10 scalps for 114, Green Shirts managed to clean sweep the visiting South Africa 2-0 here on the fifth and final day. 

According to details this was the first test series from which Pakistan emerged victorious against South Africa since 2003. S. Africa that was chasing the target of 370 runs, were bowled out for 274. (Score Board: Pakistan 272 & 298; South Africa 201 & 274).

South Africa opener Aiden Markram’s bat yielded 108 and that of Temba Bavuma 61. With their 4th wicket stand they put on 106. Markram was sent back to the pavilion by Ali Hasan by means of second ball. So far Pakistan and South Africa locked horns a dozen times. Pakistan lost eight and matches.

Babar Azam took to the Twitter to hold: “What makes me absolutely proud of my pack is their never say die attitude. More power to you…Even sky is not the limit for us, in sha Allah.”

According to Shoaib Akhtar: Pakistan cricket is back with a bang…Shaheen Afridi reminded us of the era of two W’s (Wasim and Waqar).

President Alvi took to the Twitter to congratulate the team:Congratulations to our Cricket team for winning the series against South Africa. Excellent performances by Hassan Ali and Rizwan in this match too. Well fought South Africa. Pakistan now welcomes the world of cricket to our beautiful country.”

It may be recalled that earlier Green Shirts won the first Test by seven wickets in the Port City Karachi.The two teams will now clash thrice in Lahore playing three Twenty20 internationals on 11th, 13th and 14th of February.

Sir Vivian Richards pointed towards the great composure from Pakistan to win the game and the series at home: “This will mean a lot to the players, management & especially the fans. Congratulations PCB, well done! Pakistan vs South Asia.”
