ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in partnership with Rehman Medical Institute and Sky Travels has introduced medical tourism to facilitate the patients from Afghanistan to get cost-effective and quality healthcare facilities in Pakistan.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by PIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Air Marshal Arshad Malik, Rehman Medical Institute CEO, Shafiq Ur Rehman, Head of Marketing, Turab Ashghar and Head of Department Business Development, Tariq Khan.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Rehman Medical Institute Director Operations Dr Talha Dewan Ashraf and Sky Travels and Tours Managing Director Muhammad Reza Qasmi.
Marshal Arshad Malik said the initiative between Rehman Medical Institute and Sky Travels would facilitate the patients from Afghanistan to get quality healthcare facilities and enhance the bilateral relationship between the neighboring counties.
He said PIA had expanded its flights from three to five to accommodate more visitors.
Shafiq Ur Rehman appreciated the support of PIA and Sky Travels and Tours for implementing this initiative in Pakistan.
He said the Rehman Medical Institute would provide a dedicated health services to the patients visiting from Afghanistan.
He assured that patients would get cost-effective and timely medical care and they would also be provided e-consultation with doctors and air ambulance facilities.
He said Rehman Medical Institute was state-of-the-art healthcare hospital with 500-bed and 37 specialties.
Muhammad Reza Qasmi said Rehman Medical Institute had strengthened the medical tourism sector since 2002 between Afghanistan and Pakistan while PIA had increased the flights.
Other speakers said the agreement would promote medical tourism to help the Afghan citizens, who had been suffering due to poor health system since long.
They said this agreement would give an invaluable opportunity to Afghan citizens to receive better medical treatment at a reasonable cost of medical procedures, such as transplant and other complicated surgeries.
They said health care system in Afghanistan was facing a lot of challenges due to unavailability of qualified doctors, equipment and medical institutes et cetera.
They said Pakistan remained the top destination for Afghan medical tourists due to common culture, language and less expensive treatments than anywhere else in the region.
The government of Pakistan had recently started taking strategic measures to revive the medical tourism, they added.
