RAWALPINDI: Commissioner’s Office here was the venue where the delegations of JI (led by Liaquat Baloch) and Govt had a rendezvous on Sunday (28th July, 2024) in order to discuss the Anti-Inflation Dharna (sit-in) and came up with the idea of forming a Technical Committee to address the dilemma.
Meanwhile, Govt has released 35 JI demonstrators. Later talking to the Media Liaquat Baloch informed that while govt’s committee would ponder over the means to contain inflated power bills and tax hikes, the dharna would continue at Liaquat Bagh.
JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, who is leading the dharna (sit-in by hundreds of party workers/supporters) at Liaquat Bagh for the last three days, warned that if government did not reduce inflated power bills, conducted forensic audit of IPPs and revoked tax slab on salaried class, the protest would spread to entire Pakistan.
It is pertinent to mention here that violent protests in Kashmir had forced the authorities drastically reduce electricity bills. It is yet to be seen how long JI can hold on. Meanwhile, the citoyens of twin cities have been facing difficulties in commuting to and fro their places of work, educational institutions, medical facilities etc. Not only the government bus service had been suspended, many thoroughfares had been sealed by means of containers.
