BALOCHISTAN: Heirs of the 21 slain labourers (including three Afghans) who were killed when militants attacked their mud houses located in mines area owned by Junaid Coal Co, 10km from Duki district headquarters, in the wee hours of Friday (11th October, 2024), staged a protest by putting the bodies of some miners at Backa Khan Chowk demanding justice.
According to details 40 militants fired rockets, hurled hand grenades and opened indiscriminate fire, killing 21 and injuring six miners sleeping in their humble abodes. They also destroyed ten mines and machinery, that caught fire.Militants claimed that they had warned them not to work there but they did not stop their activities there.
A number of miners were killed inside their huts. Others were shot dead after being forced to lineup outside their mud shelters. Private security guards, hired by Messrs. Junaid Coal Co, failed to stop the well-trained, well-armed attackers. Owner of the Junaid Coal Co. Haji Khairuddin Nasar, informing though for quite some time he and many mine owners were receiving threats, they never gauged the scale of the attack.
The victims were identified as Abdul Wali, Ghulam Ali, and Hayatullah from Afghanistan; Abdul Malik, Muladad, Saeedullah, Jalal Khan, Fazal and Rozi Khan from Zhob; Naseebullah, Samiullah, Abdullah and Naseebullah Jan from Qila Saifullah; Maling, Hamdullah and Abdullah from Pishin district; Bismillah from Kuchlak; Jalat Khan from Loralai district, Samad Khan from Musakhail and Wali Muhammad from Harnai district.
It may be recalled that on the occasion of the death anniversary of Akbar Bugti (26th August) 50 individuals (including 23 Punjabi workers) were killed in Balochistan by militants who believe outsiders are usurping their land and resources.
