HYDERABAD: A large number of slogan-raising men, women and children converged at Hatri Bypass to block the highway (causing hours long embouteillage) and stage a sit-in against government’s plan to construct 6 canals over Indus River on Sunday (10th November, 2024).
Addressing the protesters, STP chief Dr. Qadir Magsi, said construction of canals over Indus would deprive the 60 million Sindhis of their due share of water. Maintaining that the project would turn Sindh into a graveyard, he said: “As long as a single Sindhi is alive he will not allow construction of any dam or canal on the river.”
Accusing PPP of taking anti-Sindh decisions he said that the Party was paying a heavy cost for Zardari’s presidency by sacrificing the Province’s due share of water.
Qadir Magsi said that Sindhis did not allow Nawaz Sharif build the Kalabagh Dam. Similarly Sindhis did not allow general Musharraf harbour such thoughts. Now Shehbaz Sharif too should learn from history.
