KABUL: Muhammad Sadiq Khan, Islamabad’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan met Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of interim Afghan Government here Saturday (22nd March, 2025) and the duo agreed to address bilateral challenges (including trade, security, status of refugees in Pakistan) by means of diplomatic engagements.
Sadiq Khan took to the X after the Saturday rendezvous in order to inform that Pakistan and Afghanistan had agreed to enhance high-level engagements and dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations. During his three-day sojourn here, he would further attempt to probe the possibilities of ameliorating ties with the neighbouring landlocked country.
Afghan Foreign Ministry stated that both sides emphasised the importance of holding joint meetings and exchanging delegations to resolve pending issues: “In this meeting, bilateral relations, political and economic cooperation, transit, and people-to-people exchanges between Afghanistan and Pakistan were discussed.”
Muhammad Sadiq Khan speaking at an event at the Pakistani diplomatic post here said that both the countries must synergise their efforts to foster regional economic development…They must work together to enhance bilateral trade and galvanise regional connectivity.
It may be recalled that for some time Pakistan has been accusing Afghanistan of providing safe-heavens to the militants of Tehreek-e-Talibaan Pakistan who, it says, cross Pak-Afghan border to attack targets in Pakistan. Nevertheless, though security concerns remained the principal issue, parlays initially focused on trade and transit.
