X Concerned Over Press Censorship in India

KARACHI: X (formerly known as Twitter), while informing that the New Delhi had ordered it to block Reuters, TRT (of Turkey), Chinese Global Times, alongwith 2,347 other accounts, expressed concern over the state of affairs apropos Press censorship in India.

Maintaining that Modi-Government had been utilizing censorship to gag the dissenting voices, X said it was exploring all legal avenues against the order. On 6th July India had restored the News Account of Reuters (having 25 million followers all over the world). It may be recalled that in response to a legal demand the official X handle of Reuters had been withheld in India at midnight.

X held: “In our continuing effort to make our services available to people everywhere, if we receive a valid and properly scoped request from an authorised entity, it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in a particular country from time to time.” Those attempting to open the Reuters’ X handle came across the message: “Account withheld. @Reuters has been withheld in IN (India) in espouse to a legal demand...X stated: “At this time, we are no longer withholding access in India to your account.”
