MOSCOW: Kremlin has confirmed on Thursday (7th of August, 2025) that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump was being planned to be held in UAE soon.
White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump would like to meet both President Putin and President Zelensky because he wanted “this brutal war to end… White House is working through the details of these potential meetings and details will be provided at the appropriate time.”
Karoline Leavitt claimed on 6th August that the proposed meeting was result of Moscow’s request. But Kremlin porte parole Yuri Ushakov said the next day that Washington suggested the summit. According to him preparations were underway for a meeting between Putin and Trump as early as next week.
One may recall that back in the month of March, the two talked over telephone but still Russia and Ukraine continued aerial attacks against each other.
Moscow had agreed to temporarily stop attacks on energy infrastructure targets, yet hours later the two countries commenced aerial assaults. While Russia claimed that Ukraine had attacked one of its oil facilities, Kyiv accused Moscow of a hundred and fifty drone attacks.
It is pertinent to mention here that following his conversation with Putin, Trump also talked to Zelenskyy who stated: “Putin essentially rejected the proposal of a comprehensive ceasefire. It would be right for the world to reject any attempts by Putin to draw out the war.”
