JERUSALEM: According to the Israeli Military and Airports Authority the arrivals hall of Ramon Airport was hit by a Houthi drone on Sunday (7th Sept, 2025).
Surprisingly, no sirens were sounded despite the presence of a multi-layered anti missiles and anti-drones system. Following the attack the southern airspace over the airport remained closed for ninety minutes.

It may be recalled that on 30th August, Yemeni Presidency took to the X to proclaim that Iran-aligned Houthi Govt’s PM Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi, along with several of his fellow ministers, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on 28th August.
According to Houthis, the ministers were targeted during a routine workshop held by the government to evaluate its activity and performance over the past year. Confirming the strike, Israel informed that it had bombarded a compound here, by means of fighter jets, where Houthi leaders were having a meeting. Defense Minister Israel Katz termed the attack as unprecedented knockout blow.
Commenting on the development Head of the Houthis’ Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, stated: “We promise to Allah, to the dear Yemeni people and the families of the martyrs and wounded that we will take revenge and we will turn the wounds into a victory.” The Houthi Minister of Defense, Maj. Gen. Mohd Nasser al-Atifi, said they were ready to confront the “US-backed Zionist enemy.”

One may recall that on 5th May Israel launched air strikes on Yemen by means of thirty fighter jets. A day before Houthis attacked Ben Gurion Airport with a ballistic missile.
Ben Gurion Airport remained closed for half-an-hour on 4th May when a ballistic missile fired from Yemen landed within the airport’s perimeter, injuring eight people, destroying one vehicle and a road.
Interestingly, not only the IDF failed to intercept the Houthis’ missile via long-range Arrow interceptor, the advanced THAAD anti-missile system, deployed here by USA too failed to stop the the missile from Yemen. Due to half hour closure flights were halted at the airport. This incidence exposed Israel’s venerability and the ability of Houthis to strike Israel.
Claiming responsibility Houthis pointed out that Sunday’s missile attack was in retaliation for the attack on Sana’a airport carried out recently. Houthis further warned the global airlines that they were unsafe at Ben Gurion Airport. Defence Minister of Israel warned: “Whoever harms us, we will strike them seven-fold.”
On 17th April the US forces took action to eliminate the Houthis’ fuel source: “The objective of these (air) strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis,” said the CENTCOM statement. According to Houthi-affiliated Media, 58 people lost their lives, 126 got injured here in one of the deadliest attacks by US on Yemen.
“The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis”, CENTCOM posted on Social Media. Citing the reports that (in response to Gaza war) Houthis had launched 100 attacks since Nov, 2023 on shipping in Red Sea (they claimed were linked to Israel), US said that the bombardment on them would continue until they stop targeting the vessels.
