DoW’s Restrictions on US Media

WASHINGTON: Department of War (DoW) here has imposed restrictions on Media covering American military, Friday (19th Sept, 2025).

According to DoW, it remains committed to “transparency to promote accountability and public trust…However, DoW information must be approved for public release by an appropriate authorizing official before it is released, even if it is unclassified.”

Journalists are required to limit their movements within the Dept of War, pledge not to disclose anything not formally authorised to run. They are required to sign an affidavit promising to comply, or risk losing their media credentials.

Taking to the X Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated: “The ‘press’ does not run the Pentagon — the people do…The press is no longer allowed to roam the halls of a secure facility. Wear a badge and follow the rules — or go home.”

Savants at the helm of affairs reckon that gestures like cutting off access to the headquarters of DoW (the largest govt department) manifest Trump’s desire to stop Media running pieces against his policies.

Commenting on the development National Press Club’s President Mike Balsamo stated: “This is a direct assault on independent journalism at the very place where independent scrutiny matters most: the U.S. military,” National Press Club President Mike Balsamo said.

“For generations, Pentagon reporters have provided the public with vital information about how wars are fought, how defense dollars are spent, and how decisions are made that put American lives at risk. That work has only been possible because reporters could seek out facts without needing government permission.”
