UK to provide missiles to Indian army

MUMBAI: Following PM Keir Starmer’s meeting with PM Narendra Modi here, Britain has announced on Thursday (9th Oct, 2025) the inking of a $468 million deal to supply Indian Army with UK-made lightweight missiles.

According to British Government seven hundred workers will be employed at a Thales’ Northern Ireland factory in order to make missiles for India. The Irish factory presently manufactures lightweight multi-role missiles for Ukraine. It may be recalled that UK and Thales had earlier signed an agreement to produce over five thousand anti-tank guided missiles for Ukraine.

Sir Keir, while talking to journalists at a Presser described the trade deal with India as huge for UK and “the most ambitious trade deal India has ever done…This trade deal is a launchpad to boost British leadership in everything from tech, to life sciences, to renewable energy and much more beyond that…The opportunity is clear – Just look at the sheer scale of India, the world’s largest democracy on track to become the third-largest economy by 2028.”
