LONDON: Chinese Cyrptoqueen Qian Zhimin, mastermind of an enormous Ponzi Scheme (involving 128,000 preys and £ 5.5 billion bitcoin scam) has been sent behind bars for eleven years & eight months by judge Sally-Ann Hales here on Tuesday (11th Nov, 2025).
While sentencing the 47-year old elusive Ponzi Scheme mastermind, who was arrested in April 2024, judge Sally-Ann Hales observed: “You were the architect of this offending from its inception to its conclusion … your motive was one of pure greed. You left China without a thought for the people whose investments you had stolen and enjoyed for a period of time a lavish lifestyle. You lied and schemed, all the while seeking to benefit yourself.”
The money Qian Zhimin got illegally during 4-year (2014-2017) Ponzi Scheme, was stored in Bitcoin assets. She was living in a 17,000 pounds/m house and attempted to buy multi-million pounds worth of properties. Police recovered devices holding the cryptocurrency. 61,000 Bitcoins forfeited by the officers is the largest such seizure in the country.
