Arshad Nadeem wins gold at Islamic Games

RIYADH: Twenty-eight year old Pakistani Olympic gold medallist Javelin Thrower Arshad Nadeem won his second consecutive gold at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games with 83.05m throw here on Thursday (20th Nov, 2025).

Olympic Gold Medallist Javelin Thrower Arshad Nadeem had been awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan at a special investiture ceremony held here on 29th August, 2024. Pakistani Javelin Thrower Arshad Nadeem grabbed Olympic 2024 gold in Paris with record-breaking 92.97m.

Arshad Nadeem won the first gold medal in 40 years for Pakistan that did not win any Olympic medal for the last 32 years. Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem qualified for the Paris Olympics with 86.79m in his third attempt in the qualifying rounds of World Athletics Championships 2023 on 25th of August, 2023.The feat also took him to the final of the javelin throw competition at the World Championships.

Arshad Nadeem is the Commonwealth Games gold medalist, finished at the top in Group B. Overall he ended second after India’s Neeraj Chopra, who launched his campaign with 88.77m throw in Group A. The qualifying mark for the 2024 Paris Olympics was 85.50m. The qualifying window commenced on 1st July. Arshad’s first attempt was not impressive as he began with a throw a measuring 70.63m.

However, he was quite impressive with a 81.53m throw in his second effort. Nadeem shot to stardom when he finished fifth in the Tokyo Olympics. He also ended fifth in the World Championship. But soon afterwards, he made the history when in the Commonwealth Games he claimed the gold medal with a huge throw of 90.18m at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham (United Kingdom).That feat also saw him becoming the first South Asian to cross the 90m mark.

His 86.40 meter throw was followed by Indian athlete Sachin Yadav who was awarded the silver for his 85.16m throw. Bronze was won by Japanese Javelin thrower Yuta Sakiyama whose javelin covered a distance of 83.75 meters. A day earlier the champ qualified for the final of AAC by means of 86.34 meter throw that was his first since getting the Paris Olympics gold.
